5 MicroVacay Escapes to Take Before Summer Ends

5 MicroVacay Escapes to Take Before Summer Ends

We all want to get away every now and then and take necessary breathers from our hectic schedules, but not everyone has the luxury of taking lengthy periods of time off.

So what do you do when you need an escape but have limited time to do so? Go on a MicroVacay! Escape for 3 or 4 days to a local corner of paradise, go on a wine tour in the Okanagan (because who doesn't love wine?), or head up to Whistler for a quick weekend away at the spa and ski lodge.

The beauty of living in Vancouver is that the options are seemingly endless for mini getaways, with most being only a quick 4-5 hour drive away from the city. If you're in need of inspiration this fall, check out some of the places on this list and find yourself the perfect #microvacay escape.

1. The Hemloft in Whistler

If you're a Star Wars fan like me and always dreamed of staying in a fabulous suspended tree loft, then The Hemloft in Whistler would be the perfect escape for you. Technically, this space is shrouded in Christmas tree aroma and mystery, and, being on crown land means you'll have to contact the owner via Facebook for booking as stay, but definitely worthwhile to see.

2. Sparkling Hill Resort - Vernon

This gorgeous luxury Resort and Spa is nestled in the mountains of Vernon and an extremely romantic spot for a few days away. With absolutely breath-taking views, a rooftop pool overlooking the rolling hills, and a world class spa and relaxation center, Sparkling Hills is the perfect spot for anything from a couples weekends, ladies spa trip or even for some solo reflection time.

3. Okanagan & Oliver Wineries - Okanagan Falls

The BC VQA is rivaled by many as the forefront of Canadian wine, and the nucleus of this success can be found in tiny South Okanagan towns like OK Falls and Oliver. Whether its See Ya Later Ranch, or Blue Mountain Vineyards and Wine Cellars or Le Vieux Pin, these wineries offer the best of what BC has to offer for wine-lovers everywhere and they're located only a few hours outside of Vancouver.

4. Outdoor Exploration on the Chilcotin Coast

For the backpacker and nature enthusiast, exploring the back forests of the Cariboo's Chilcotin Coast could be just the off-the-beaten-path trip you're craving. Ride on horseback, paddle by kayak, and trek through ranch lands and canyons on foot for a taste of the rugged outdoors. A couple of destinations in this area could also include the Great Bear Rainforest or the Spirit Bear Lodge.

5. Surf's Up in Tofino

Tofino and Ucluelet are the best low-key relaxation spots close to the Lower Mainland. Take the ferry with a few girlfriends and stay at the The Wickaninnish Inn, head over to Surf Sister for some weekend surf lessons (for only $195 - it's pretty reasonable), and finish up the day with some local wine and tacos from the original Tacofino (not the food truck on Burrard, the real deal).
